The Band

Tom Bayer, Guitarist

My grandfather would probably be one of the most sought-after blues harp players today. In the 1930s he entertained his guests every evening at the Heurigen in Ottakring with Edith Piaf and Marlene Dietrich classics. My first instrument was a Hohner, a diatonic harmonica from his collection.

I got my first Bontempi organ when I was six and my first guitar when I was seven. When I was fifteen, my music teacher gave me the electric bass in the school band. Shortly thereafter, as the youngest musician, I played guest appearances with Opus, Jazz Gitti, Ostbahn Kurti, and Boris Bukowski, among others

In my early 20s, I studied fusion guitar at the American Institute of Music with Scott Henderson, Les Wise, and Paul Hanson, among others. After graduating, I moved to London and Paris, where I was able to take part in international studio and live productions.

"I love the notes you don't play. These fine little gaps and spaces make your playing very special” Angus Bangus once said about my lines and rhythm patterns. I was and am always looking for a unique sound that is able to dissolve time and space. Tones and emotions have an ambivalent relationship when less means more when the expression of each tone represents a perfect little universe. And yet sounds are emotions, so to speak because they can change any imaginable mood, and contain joy, sadness, anger, and love.

At 35, I felt the urge to learn more about the music of the world. I studied ethnomusicology at the University of Vienna and dealt with contemporary music from Madagascar and classical Indian music.

Bardia Khashayari, Bass

Bardia Khashayari comes from a music-loving family, has been listening to rock music since he was 5, and started to make music himself alongside his cousins (one of his cousins, Hossein Rastegar, was a popular drummer in the Austropop scene). At their side, he played numerous rock and funk concerts and also his first studio productions. With the well-known Afghan singer Dawood Sarkhosh, he recorded 3 CDs and played 3 world tours.
